For high horsepower applications
(typically 600+ crankshaft horsepower) ScienceofSpeed offers billet main
caps to replace the factory cast iron caps.
Machined tool steel increases tensile strength from 30,000 PSI (factory
cast iron) to 90,000 PSI (machined tool steel) and decreases material
brittleness to reduce fracturing from stress concentration
(namely main bearing oiling hole). Hardened & black oxide finished.
Sold as a set of four. Main bore is left .025" undersized. Block and
caps must be line bored to final finished size. We recommend use of the
ARP Main Stud kit, which
should be installed when the block is bored.
